The Chicago Aquatic Plant Society is excited to host Vin Kutty at the September 21st meeting. Vin is an avid aquarist and has been keeping plants for the past 30 years. He travels regularly to the Amazon, Africa, or tropical Asia where he often finds new and interesting plants, including some that are suitable for the aquarium.
Vin’s aquascaping style leans towards the classic Dutch style where he can grow his rare plant finds and run experiments to study the effects of nutrients on plant health and growth. His talk will describe some of his interesting findings from his most recent experiments. Vin was a featured speaker at the Aquatic Gardener’s Association international meeting this past May and this talk will inspire you to think differently about how you grow your aquatic plants.
The meeting is from 1-4pm on Saturday, September 21st at the Bolingbrook Fountaindale Public Library in Meeting Room A on the first floor. Feel free to bring plants for trading and we will have our regularly scheduled raffle.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!

Wabi Kusa is an art form that achieves the simple, natural beauty only found in the slow chaos of nature. The Chicago Aquatic Plant Society invites you to join us at the beautiful Friendship Park Conservatory for a Wabi Kusa Workshop. With instruction from the Chicago Aquatic Plant Society Board, everyone will have the opportunity to create their own Wabi Kusa with materials and aquatic plants provided by the Chicago Aquatic Plant Society. They will provide instruction on how to create a specialized substrate ball, introduce the plants, and care for this low maintenance, living piece of art once you take it home. Entrance is free for Chicago Aquatic Plant Society paid members and $5 for non-paid members.
We will be presenting the “Basic Principles of Aquascaping” and conducting an aquascaping demo after the presentation. The goal of the presentation is to provide basic design guidelines, tips on choosing hardscape, and other tips and tricks that are used by aquascapers. We will focus on setting up a lower maintenance, no CO2 aquascape, but will also incorporate information about setting up a high tech planted tank.
